Hooded mocking birds (the first two) they have a slightly curved beak and are only found on the island of Espanola, the next two the mocking birds were at the Giant Tortoise centre. They wait in the trees till the food goes out then fly down and sit on top of the tortoises watching for insects being disturbed as they munch the leaves.

Wild goats and red deer roam free in the hills near Laurieston. But they come down to the feeding centres to be fed by the rangers and passing travellers. The deer loved our carrots. The goats however had obviously had their fill earlier and stayed further up the hill.

The pelicans have no fear of man as they wait to either steal a piece of fish or the fishermen throwing them the inners. They even hitch lifts of the bow of their boats. As is the norm in the Galapagos man and wildlife work together.

Waved Albatross’s sitting on their eggs just by the path of the guide escorted trip round Espanola!! They have no reason to fear man and sit and watch visitors walking past. The Islands have been protected now for 65 years! Well done Galapagos National Park Rangers and guides. Amazing place.

Although they can be seen on San Cristobal just sitting on the shore in the town, the were more active on Seymor where they were sitting on eggs and at least one had a chick. I still can’t get my head round how close you get to them and at times my lens was too big!

Visited 3 different Giant Tortoise centres, one on San Cristobal and two on Santa Cruz including the Charles Darwin Centre. The two islands tortoises and actually different species, however in times gone by whalers etc took them from island to island allowing them to breed. The last photo is of a hybrid allow to live out their life but not allowed to breed.
