Hooded mocking birds (the first two) they have a slightly curved beak and are only found on the island of Espanola, the next two the mocking birds were at the Giant Tortoise centre. They wait in the trees till the food goes out then fly down and sit on top of the tortoises watching for insects being disturbed as they munch the leaves.
What a day out to see the Red Kites. They were circling waiting on the food going out. Amazing to watch and listen to their calls, then out went the food!!… and they continued to circle for another 1& 1/2 hours before the frenzy began!! And they dropped from behind us! so I got great shots of their backs!! Never work with animals they say… yep, but a fabulous day out regardless.
The pelicans have no fear of man as they wait to either steal a piece of fish or the fishermen throwing them the inners. They even hitch lifts of the bow of their boats. As is the norm in the Galapagos man and wildlife work together.
Waved Albatross’s sitting on their eggs just by the path of the guide escorted trip round Espanola!! They have no reason to fear man and sit and watch visitors walking past. The Islands have been protected now for 65 years! Well done Galapagos National Park Rangers and guides. Amazing place.
Although they can be seen on San Cristobal just sitting on the shore in the town, the were more active on Seymor where they were sitting on eggs and at least one had a chick. I still can’t get my head round how close you get to them and at times my lens was too big!
Taken from some distance away so as not to disturb them Lapwing parents with chick, although the parents done a couple of fly pasts just to check us out. Strange thing is they are actually really close to the road!
A little mixed bag from last weeks visit to the hide A little wren singing its heart out unaware of the feather stuck to its butt, a blue tit nesting, a ringed plover, a pied wagtail chirping away and little green finch.
